The Holmstead School is in session from 8:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. daily.
College preparation skills as well as career development experiences
are offered. Students are required to take six courses in a rotating
schedule. This procedure minimizes anxiety about facing the same
courses at the same time each day. Students are required to take
the courses necessary to fulfill state-mandated requirements, as
well as electives designed to provide a well-rounded curriculum.
Students are encouraged to take an active part in the planning of
their schedules by selecting courses from the forty-five offered
at Holmstead. The Supervisor of Education compiles these course
selections in an effort to predict improvement, promote success
and increase motivation.
Incorporated into the school day is one hour of
recreational arts. Students are required to participate in an organized
activity. These activities include the Holmstead gym program, yearbook
and newspaper publication, music instruction, arts and crafts, and
computer related activities. The recreational arts program is mandatory
and students receive a grade on their report card reflecting their
participation and cooperation, rather than their skill level. Educational
and recreational field trips are offered periodically on a course-related
basis.
Holmstead School is in compliance with Section
504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, which prohibits discrimination
by reason of race, color, sex, creed or national origin.
